A Wine by any Other Name Would Taste as Sweet…

All too often, when asked about wine, consumers claim they LOVE a Sancerre, but don’t care for Sauvignon Blanc. Or the familiar, “I drink anything but Chardonnay” but the same people will gush over a White Burgundy. Problem is, in both these cases, they are talking about the same grapes! France and Italy both label their wines with the appellation (growing region) rather than the varietal (grape name) which we commonly see on New World labels. As someone who has made this mistake as well, I thought it necessary to share out a quick cheat sheet on commonly mistaken wines!
