Pro Tip: Page Cellars on Mother’s Day (or any day)

Mother’s Day is the one (planned) Sunday, where we all get to spoil Mom, or at least raise a glass in her honor if she’s not able to join you. Typically, this involves a special brunch, or dinner, or in my world, a stellar wine tasting. Turns out, there is one place that does it better than most!

I had the privilege of spoiling my wife at Page Cellars here in Woodinville, WA, and not only scored points for a most enjoyable afternoon, made some wonderful new friends in the process. Located in the warehouse district, we were greeted by the owner, Dee, who along with her husband, recently acquired Page Cellars and while keeping with tradition, they are already making it their own. Dee was also joined by two other lovely ladies, Kristian, and Laurel, who added quite a bit of “sparkle” and sass to our day.

As we enjoyed our tasting, we witnessed several groups of moms getting spoiled by the staff of Page, with gracious pours, beautiful flowers, and cards personalized for each one. There were also plenty of customer owned dogs hanging out for anyone who needed to love on some pups while enjoying their Cabernet. Page Cellars is both children and dog friendly, making it an easy going and very approachable tasting room for wine lovers of all ages (and breeds).

The wine tasting itself was delicious, and they currently offer two variations; White- Rosé -Red, or simply all Reds. Luckily my wife and I got one of each, so I was able to enjoy both. 😊 I am always drawn to a good Riesling which Page offers first with their W-R-R tasting. Crisp and mildly acidic, it was a welcome start to a flight that only got better as the wine reddened. Their fruit is grown in the Red Mountain AVA, which already excels at red grapes, but the area is also making some delicious whites as well. What really struck me were Page’s two rosés, “Tickle Me Pink” and “Page Cellars Rosé”, each with a very different profile. Dee referred to them as a “summer rosé” and “winter rosé” and I could see why. The Tickle Me Pink was lighter, crisp, and tangy, but thirst quenching and a definite porch pounder. The Page rosé was thicker, more complex, and seemed like a “sit by the fire” overlooking the lake kind of drink. Both were equally delicious, but Dee was right that they each had their time and place. We ended our time with a pour of their Port, which was sweet and hearty, but not overpowered by raisin or plum notes. There was much more red fruit concentration and smooth finish which would serve as an amazing aperitif or dessert wine.
