BioDynamic Farming

Happy Earth Day! To commemorate the day where we celebrate our lovely planet, I thought it necessary to highlight a winery that is “farming like the world depends on it”. Troon Winery in Oregon’s Applegate Valley is the first estate farm in Oregon and the second winery in the world to become Regenerative Organic Certified™️. With their fall 2021 releases, they will also be the first winery in the world to feature the Regenerative Organic Certified™️ logo on their labels! Founded in 2018, the Regenerative Organic Certification is a revolutionary new certification that champions farmers who go above and beyond in the three pillars of this certification: soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. By attaining this certification, Troon Vineyard is helping to address long-term solutions to climate change and some of the biggest agricultural issues of our time.

Biodynamic agriculture is all about returning the microbiome to a healthy balance so that a grapevine can return to its natural process of extracting what it needs from the soil. This makes for a healthier, stronger vine and that means more flavorful fruit and wine. The easiest way to describe biodynamics is that it is organic agriculture combined with an intensive discipline of probiotic treatments - the biodynamic preparations.

Additionally, I wanted to also showcase my favorite wine from Troon, their 2019 Cotes Du Kubli Red. Vibrant purple color. Very fresh on the nose with aromas of raspberry, cherry and strawberry fruit, and spicier tones of pepper and mulling spices. Zesty and dusty on the palate with crisp acidity. The red cherries, cranberry and raspberry fruit is lively and crisp, and mixed well with black pepper, violets, and complex leather and beefy tones. A beautiful wine to warm up your winter days or even cool down your summer nights!
